Could allowing your teenage daughter to wear makeup be increasing her breast cancer risk?

Research shows 9 out of 10 girls are wearing makeup regularly by the time they are 14.  In fact, the number of girls aged 11 to 14 who use makeup on a daily basis has doubled in two years! (Mintel International Group report, 2004). Yet studies show that girls are most vulnerable to the chemicals which are linked to breast cancer during their developing years (Environmental Working Group report, 2008).

One way parents can protect their daughters is to educate them.  As part of their Building Social Confidence program, local company, Grace Academy, teaches teenage girls about the safe and informed use of cosmetics. They also show teen girls quick and easy ways of making natural products at home, such as the delicious sounding Chocolate Facial Mask. Alternatively, parents can research safe products on the internet.
